Nickel Alloy Parts by Sector
A nickel alloy part is chosen for the place it works in. The sector decides the alloy family, the standard on the drawing, the inspection and the paperwork, so two parts with the same geometry can carry very different RFQs. This hub sorts nickel alloy machined parts by the sector that buys them. Each sector page lists the parts, the alloys that fit, the standards to name and the documents to ask for.
| Sector | Typical parts | Alloys most often named | What drives the choice | Paperwork that usually follows |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oil and gas | Downhole tool bodies, hangers, valve trim, wellhead parts | 718, 925, 725, 625, 825 | Wet H2S, chlorides, pressure | ISO 15156 limits, API product specs, hardness records |
| Aero engines | Shafts, rings, cases, fasteners | 718, Waspaloy, X-750, 625 | Strength and fatigue at temperature | AMS material spec, first article, traceability |
| Industrial gas turbines | Seal rings, combustor parts, transition pieces | Hastelloy X, 617, 718, X-750 | Oxidation and creep | Material spec, heat treat record, NDT |
| Chemical process | Pump and valve parts, flanges, heat exchanger parts | C-276, 625, 825, Monel 400 | Acids, chlorides, mixed media | Material spec, PMI, corrosion test where named |
| Furnaces and heat treat | Fixtures, baskets, muffles, radiant tube parts | 600, 601, 800H, X | Oxidation, carburization, thermal cycling | Material cert, weld procedure |
| Rocket engines | Injectors, manifolds, turbopump parts | 718, 625 | Strength, cryogenic and hot duty | Customer spec, export control screening |
The applications overview gives the one-page summary. For the alloy side, start at the alloys hub or the types of nickel alloys, and for the standards behind each row see the alloy specifications.
How to use a sector page
- Find the row for your part type and check that the alloy on your drawing is one the sector normally uses. If it is not, ask why before you quote.
- Copy the standards and documents column into the RFQ. Shops quote faster when the paperwork is named at the start.
- Read the mistakes section. Most delays in nickel alloy orders come from a missing condition, an edition left out or a document asked for after the order.
We are a matching service. We do not machine, test or certify parts. We pass your RFQ to up to three shops that already work in the alloy and sector you name.
Frequently asked questions
How is this hub different from the applications page?
The applications page is a one-page overview of every sector. The pages in this hub take one sector each and go into the part list, the alloy choice, the standards and the paperwork in detail.
Which sector uses the most nickel alloy machined parts?
By count of RFQs it varies, but aero engines and oil and gas are the two sectors where nickel alloy drawings are routine rather than exceptional. Gas turbines, chemical process plants and furnace equipment follow.
